Pirates Sign Noah Davis to Minor League Deal: A Second Chance for the Right-Hander?
The Pittsburgh Pirates have signed right-handed pitcher Noah Davis to a minor league deal, according to his MLB.com profile page. This move comes after Davis elected minor league free agency in October, a decision influenced by his history of multiple career outright assignments and his failure to secure a spot on the Twins' 40-man roster after being outrighted in September.
Noah Davis made his MLB debut in 2022, pitching a single inning for the Colorado Rockies. Since then, he has played in four Major League seasons, with limited playing time. Davis has accumulated 27 games and 62 1/3 innings, posting a 9.53 ERA, 18.5% strikeout rate, and 9.2% walk rate. The majority of his struggles have been attributed to giving up home runs, with 17 home runs allowed in his 62 1/3 innings of work.
In 2025, Davis had a challenging season, allowing seven more home runs over 11 innings with the Dodgers and Twins. He began the year with the Red Sox on a minor league contract, but was traded to the Dodgers in late March. After a short stint in Los Angeles, he was designated for assignment in July and claimed by the Twins off waivers. Despite these changes, Davis struggled in Minnesota, finishing the season with an 18.00 ERA.
Despite his struggles, Davis showed some promise in Triple-A, posting a 3.88 ERA, 26K%, and 11.5BB% across 48 2/3 innings and 35 appearances with the Dodgers' and Twins' Triple-A affiliates. This improvement has not yet translated to success against big league batters, but the Pirates are giving him a chance during Spring Training, recognizing his potential as a reliever.
With the Pirates' recent success in developing pitchers and the expertise of new pitching coach Bill Murphy, there's a possibility that Davis could be a late bloomer. The Buccos' pitching development team may provide the support he needs to reach his full potential. The question remains: can Davis turn his fortunes around and prove himself as a valuable asset to the Pirates?
