According to Meta, wearers will have the flexibility to adjust the amplification level simply by swiping along the right temple of the glasses, or through the device settings. This means users can tailor the sound to suit their surroundings, whether they're in a bustling restaurant, a lively bar, a crowded train, or any other noisy place.
Of course, the effectiveness of this new feature remains to be seen, and further testing will be essential. However, it’s worth noting that the concept of utilizing smart devices as hearing aids isn't exclusive to Meta. Apple has already integrated a similar functionality into their AirPods, featuring a Conversation Boost option aimed at helping users focus on their companions. Moreover, the latest Pro models have introduced a clinical-grade Hearing Aid function, highlighting a growing trend in tech aimed at enhancing auditory experiences.
Currently, while the conversation-focus feature is only rolling out in the U.S. and Canada, the integration with Spotify is available in English across a wider range of countries, including Australia, Austria, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, India, Ireland, Italy, Mexico, Norway, Spain, Sweden, the United Arab Emirates, the U.K., and the U.S.
The software update, labeled version 21, will initially be accessible to individuals enrolled in Meta’s Early Access Program, which necessitates joining a waitlist and receiving approval. Following this initial rollout, the update will be made more widely available.
