This verdict stems from allegations of non-serious assault, resisting arrest, and attempted bribery during an event in August 2020. Maguire has consistently maintained his innocence, and it's understood his legal team plans to appeal the guilty verdict.
But here's where it gets controversial... The player's arrest, along with his brother and a friend, occurred after a reported altercation outside a bar. The catalyst for the fight, according to claims, was the alleged injection of Maguire's sister with a suspected "rape drug." This serious accusation casts a dark shadow over the events that transpired.
Initially, Maguire was found guilty shortly after the incident and received a 21-month suspended sentence. However, this conviction was quashed on appeal, paving the way for a retrial. A suspended sentence, for those unfamiliar, means that a prison term is avoided unless the individual commits another offense within a specified period.
The legal proceedings have been notably protracted, with the retrial being postponed a significant four times before finally taking place. Interestingly, Maguire was not required to be present for this latest court session.

Former England manager, Sir Gareth Southgate, notably removed Maguire from the England squad for several matches following the first guilty verdict. While he later regained his place, his international appearances have been limited since 2024.
Despite these legal battles, Maguire continues to be a key player for Manchester United, boasting 17 appearances this season and is expected to feature in their upcoming match against Newcastle.
